Throughout the world, there are many countries that show the muppets on tv for children. One of the countries that shows the muppets is Afghanistan. In Afghanistan specifically there is a new muppet named Zari. This small purple character with a yellow nose and hair made of yarn has changed the lives of many children sitting in front of tv. The muppet, Zari, is a girl which is a very important part of this muppet's existence. In Afghanistan, the women are treated poorly, looked down upon, covered up, and are uneducated. There is a 40% literacy rate of men in Afghanistan, but there is only a 25% literacy rate of women. Zari teaches the kids some basic learning, such as, the alphabet. It also has showed families and kids that women and girls can be just as important. It shows little girls that it is not impossible for a girl to do whatever she wants or dreams of. Zari went to an orphanage and the children would run up and interrupt the show to give it hugs and kisses. This relates to history because constantly in the past there has been a mistreatment of women in some way. And more recently, there has been a "war on women," that is constantly being brought up. People are continuously, defending women for being scrutinized. Lately, women have been asking for a higher pay. Now it seems that women just expect to be given something because they are a women. They want more than men just for being a women, but don't want anything less for not being a man. They use being a women in whichever way benefits them the most. I think that as a Christian, this muppet is a good thing for the kids. It tries to tell kids that there is more than just war, but still represent the realities of life. I don't think that the article I read is very bias. He has done many various stories about different topics. He does sound like he thinks that this muppet is a positive thing and not a negative. He writes as if he believes in women's rights, but most of it is mainly informational. I think that this is an interesting story. I believe that it is good that people are stepping out to do what they believe is right. We were talking about what a true hero is, and I suppose that this is a true hero, someone who does something just because they think it's right even if there are risks involved. http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/22/asia/afghanistan-sesame-street-zari/?iid=ob_homepage_deskrecommended_pool
